Project Serve Canada --- Guelph
For the week of February 20, 2011 a group of dedicated students from the University of Guelph will come together with the AIDS Committee of Guelph and Peer Leaders from the Student Life to get involved in local HIV/AIDS education. The students undergo pre-education sessions followed by a 4 day intensive training to learn more about HIV/AIDS. The students will explore the complexities of the pandemic from social, medical and advocacy perspectives. Through experiential learning activities, guest speakers and presentations, students will prepare themselves for leading HIV/AIDS awareness workshops in local highschools which will take place during the latter part of the week.
Over the past 5 years, the program has reached over 2000 students, been awarded the Hayes Award for Community Partnerships, and resulted in a small army of dedicated volunteers full of information, advocacy skills, and passion to share them.
